Emergency Medical Services

Providing Fast and Safe Transport to the ER

We’re ready if you need to reach the hospital quickly. Central DuPage Emergency Medical Services System coordinates among several hospitals, ambulance providers and emergency paramedic personnel to assure fast and safe transport to the emergency department.

Coordinated Care Improves Efficiency

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is a network of hospitals, emergency personnel, and providers of ambulances and other emergency vehicles. Approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health to serve West Chicago, Winfield, Carol Stream, and Wheaton, the Central DuPage Emergency Medical Services System coordinates:

  • Emergency care before a victim reaches the hospital
  • Emergency transport to a hospital, or between different hospitals
  • Non-emergency ambulance transport with varied levels of support:
  • We work closely with the Winfield Fire Protection District, Wheaton Fire Department, West Chicago Fire Protection District, First Care Ambulance Service and Carol Stream Fire Protection District.

      Want to Become a Paramedic?

      The EMS network offers classes aimed at preparing individuals to become a paramedic. For more information on paramedic classes and requirements, please call the EMS manager at 630-933-6910.

      • Basic life support
      • Intermediate life support
      • Advanced life support
      • Emergency and non-emergency transport to a hospital
      • At-the-scene care to stabilize a patient (at home or at the site of an accident or incident)
      • Continuing education class for EMS personnel, including paramedics and emergency care registered nurses (ECRNs)
      • Training programs for emergency medical technicians (EMT) in basic life support (BLS), intermediate life support (ILS) and advanced life support (ALS)
      • Oversight and regulation of ambulance operations, including vehicle inspections and investigations into patient complaints
      • Physicians specializing in emergency medicine, who serve as EMS medical director and alternate medical director
      • EMS manager
      • EMS education coordinator
      • EMS continuous quality improvement coordinator
