Nutrition Services - Inpatient
Meeting Patients' Dietary Needs in the Hospital
Good nutrition plays an important role in treatment, recovery and overall health maintenance. Nutrition specialists at Central DuPage Hospital function as vital members of the patient care team to assure that meals comply with each patient’s nutrient needs.
Services
While many patients are satisfied with our standard menu options for daily meals, other patients require a more customized approach to meet their dietary needs.
Medical Nutrition Therapy is appropriate for certain patients, such as patients with diabetes or heart disease. Medical nutrition therapy may include a nutrition assessment to determine the individual’s special nutrient needs, as well as dietary education to help the patient comply with guidelines recommended by the physician or dietitian.
The Team
Nutritional assessment and consultation are provided by registered dietitians, who are licensed by the State of Illinois to practice medical nutrition therapy. These dietitians have additional expertise in addressing nutritional needs related to heart disease, critical care, diabetes, children and bariatric (gastric bypass) surgery.
