Outstanding Inpatient Care at Central DuPage Hospital

The Medical/Oncology Inpatient Unit at Central DuPage Hospital is doing more to help patients recover from illness. Our 38-bed unit provides comprehensive care and treatment for adults with cancer and a variety of other medical conditions, such as pulmonary conditions and infections, wound infections and/or digestive system disorders.

Services

Patients receive a wide range of treatment and nursing services to help them recover.

For oncology patients, services may include:

  • Chemotherapy
  • Managing symptoms related to the disease
  • Managing side effects caused by chemotherapy or radiation therapy

For patients with other medical challenges, services include medication and nursing care to promote healing. The care is customized to fit each patient’s specific medical, emotional, spiritual and physical needs.

Integrity and respect for each patient are guiding principles for staff on the Medical/Oncology Unit. Each staff member accepts the responsibility to bestow compassionate care to all of our patients. In addition to providing excellent nursing care, our team also offers emotional support and assistance with bereavement for the patient and his or her family.

The Team

Patient care is provided by a highly qualified interdisciplinary team, with:

  • Registered nurses who are Chemotherapy Certified by the Oncology Nurse Society and who have continuing education in the care of oncology patients
  • Unit nurse manager
  • An Oncology Certified Nurse who directs staff education

Additionally, patients may receive care from other professionals who have expertise in palliative care, pain management, social services, nutrition, respiratory therapy, rehabilitation services, care coordination, pharmacy, spiritual care or other disciplines.
