Individual and Group Follow-up and Support

Individual & Group Follow Up and Support

Initially we teach each patient the necessary fundamentals of good nutrition, fitness and behaviors to incorporate for a healthier lifestyle.  Ongoing motivation and educational advancements are also necessary for each patient to achieve their personal health goals, become healthier as an individual and to maintain long term weight loss.  It is essential to review and build upon these weight loss fundamentals to ensure long term weight management success.

In order to keep you motivated through the initial weight loss process and to keep you motivated to maintain that weight loss over time, the Bariatric Treatment Center at Central DuPage Hospital offers ongoing support in the form of individualized education and behavior training.  Whether you prefer one-on-one or group training sessions, follow up education and motivation are incorporated within our program for your long term success.

Individual Follow Up Visits

Some patients prefer to meet with a dietitian, exercise specialist, and/or psychologist individually for focused, one-on-one follow up education.  Follow up appointments are available with each of the clinicians to review and enhance personal behavior, nutrition and fitness education.  Appointments are scheduled through the Bariatric Treatment Center office at 630-933-6745.

Monthly Support Groups

Our program offers several monthly support groups that are free of charge to patients within our program.  Support groups are intended to both educate and motivate, giving a little “lift” to keep you going on the right track through your weight loss journey.  Support groups are an important way for our patients to learn tips from each other and receive feedback from clinicians within the program.

  • Lap Band Post-Operative Support Group- This support group is offered monthly, and the agenda focuses on the long term needs of the post-operative bariatric patient.  Education and support topics are reviewed, with the specific needs of the Lap Band patient.  Lap Band adjustments, satiation and adequate weight loss following surgery are discussed.  Additional guidance in addressing lifestyle changes, physical activity and psychosocial adjustments, nutritional needs and shared experiences during the months and years after surgery are a feature of this support group.  Lap Band Post-surgical patients are the intended focus of this group. Relatives, friends, and support providers are also invited.
  • Nutrition Support Group-  This educational support class is offered monthly.  The agenda focuses on the nutrition and behavioral aspects of obesity, as well as nutrition & behavior modification for successful long term weight management.  Specific nutritional needs of the Gastric Bypass and Lap Band pre- and post- surgical patient and patients within the non-surgical Medical Weight Management Program are reviewed in detail.  All Bariatric Treatment Center patients (pre, post, and non-surgical) are encouraged to attend.  Friends, relatives, and support providers are welcome.  This support group runs directly prior to our Aquatic Exercise (water aerobics) class.
