Wheaton Family Raises Funds for Pediatric Cancer Patients
Second Annual 2-Mile Run/Walk Scheduled for September 29 in Lisle
WINFIELD, Ill., September 25, 2008 - Each person handles the loss of a loved one in a different way. Along with his family and friends, Tim Traver, a Wheaton native, has taken his grief and turned it into hope for others.
"I lost my mom, Dorothy Traver, four years ago to uterine sarcoma at Central DuPage Hospital," says Traver. "My family was there for her, and I know she'd want us to help other families enduring the same struggle."
"Providing assistance for pediatric oncology patients and their families in the DuPage County area is important to us. My older brothers, Dan and Dave, and I were raised in Wheaton and my parents provided us a wonderful childhood. I cannot think of a better way to honor my Mom's memory than by helping patients, their siblings and parents overcome the obstacles posed by cancer so that they may have the opportunity to experience the happiness we enjoyed as a family."
Dorothy Traver's family and friends have been hosting events locally to raise money for pediatric oncology patients at Central DuPage Hospital since May of 2007. On Sunday, September 28, at Benedictine University at 9 a.m. the Traver family is hosting the second annual "Dorothy's Family 2-Mile Run/Walk" at Benedictine University in Lisle.
Pediatric oncology patients from all over the western suburbs regularly visit Children's Memorial at Central DuPage Hospital's Pediatric Outpatient Center for Hematology and Oncology services.
