WINFIELD, Ill., June 19, 2008 – Sue Leston, BSN, RNC, has been nominated by her peers to receive the third annual Dr. Tom Williams Award for Leadership at Central DuPage Hospital. Leston was one of seven nurses recognized by peers for leadership, volunteerism or clinical excellence at a celebratory event concluding Nurses’ Week 2008.
Any full- or part-time nurse or patient care services employee of Central DuPage Hospital is eligible to be nominated for the Dr. Tom Williams Award for Leadership. Individuals must be nominated by someone who is directly influenced by the nominee’s leadership skills. Blind nominations are reviewed by a committee of medical staff leadership and nursing directors. Honorees each receive a cash prize and a plaque to recognize their achievement.
One of Leston’s peers wrote, “Sue displays the strengths of the exceptional leader, encouraging and teaching others to be and achieve their best, radiating confidence in others. She rejoices in others’ accomplishments and inspires a ‘can-do’ attitude.”
Leston is the assistant nurse manager for the neonatal intensive care unit at Central DuPage Hospital. She has worked in this department for 21 years. After she spends her workday caring for preterm babies, Leston volunteers her personal time participating in activities sponsored by the March of Dimes. She also volunteers for the DuPage County Women’s Shelter.
Leston holds an Associate of Science in nursing from College of DuPage and a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Rush University in Chicago. A mother of three, she resides in Winfield with her husband, Dennis.
About the Dr. Tom Williams Award
These awards were created as a tribute to and remembrance of Thomas Williams M.D., general surgeon and former medical staff president of Central DuPage Hospital. Throughout his professional career, Dr. Williams made a special point to acknowledge and praise the nurses and caregivers of Central DuPage Hospital. It is the hope of the present medical staff that the exuberant spirit that was embodied by Dr. Williams will live on through this recognition.
