WINFIELD, Ill., June 3, 2008 – Cheryl Angel, RNC, has been nominated by her peers to receive the third annual Dr. Tom Williams Peer Award for Clinical Excellence at Central DuPage Hospital. Angel was one of seven nurses recognized by peers for leadership, volunteerism or clinical excellence at a celebratory event concluding Nurses’ Week 2008.

Any full- or part-time nurse or patient care services employee of Central DuPage Hospital is eligible to be nominated for the Dr. Tom Williams Peer Award for Clinical Excellence. Individuals receiving this award, in the opinion of their nominators, bring exemplary clinical skills to the patient’s bedside. Blind nominations are reviewed by a committee of medical staff leadership and nursing directors. Honorees receive a cash prize and a plaque to recognize their achievement.

Angel’s nomination read, “Cheryl is well respected by the physicians and her coworkers. She is often requested by patients because she is a fantastic nurse. Cheryl often goes above and beyond in everything she does.”

A staff nurse in labor and delivery at Central DuPage Hospital, she is actively involved in the development of a SHARE program for parents who are experiencing loss.

“Each day in Labor and Delivery is different and I learn something new,” said Angel recently. “We have the best people working here at CDH, this includes: housekeepers, administrative assistants, patient care technicians, nurses, anesthesiologists and obstetricians. I truly love bedside nursing and hope it shows to my patients and the people I encounter each day.”

Angel holds an Associate of Science in nursing from Kishwaukee College and she is currently working towards her Bachelor of Science in nursing at Aurora University. An Aurora resident, she and her husband David have two children.

About the Dr. Tom Williams Award

These awards were created as a tribute to and remembrance of Thomas Williams M.D., general surgeon and former medical staff president. Throughout his professional career Dr. Williams made a special point to acknowledge and praise the nurses and caregivers of Central DuPage Hospital. It is the hope of the present medical staff that the exuberant spirit that was embodied by Dr. Williams will live on through this recognition.
