Neurosciences Nurse Receives Recognition
WINFIELD, Ill., June 27, 2008 – Susan Kotecki, BSN, CNRN, has been nominated by her peers to receive the third annual Dr. Tom Williams Spirit of Volunteerism Award at Central DuPage Hospital. Kotecki was one of seven nurses recognized by peers for leadership, volunteerism or clinical excellence at a celebratory event concluding Nurses’ Week 2008.
Any full- or part-time nurse or patient care services employee of Central DuPage Hospital is eligible to be nominated for the Dr. Tom Williams Spirit of Volunteerism Award. Nominee or applicant must have actively volunteered within the last six months, or have the project planned within the next six months. Examples of volunteer activities could include, but are not limited to, mission trips to other countries, staffing a free clinic on weekends, leading a fundraising drive for a medical cause, hospice volunteer, etc. Blind nominations are reviewed by a committee of medical staff leadership and nursing directors. Honorees each receive a cash prize and a plaque to recognize their achievement.
Kotecki’s volunteer work included coordinating a stroke awareness day at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Geneva, Ill. During that event she offered blood pressure screenings, provided healthy snacks and information from the Stroke Association. Her nominator wrote, “Sue Kotecki’s life is a metaphor for the concept of service to others.”
Kotecki is a staff nurse in neurosciences, and will celebrate 30 years of service at Central DuPage Hospital in June. She holds a Bachelor of Science in nursing from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. A Geneva resident, she and her husband Ray, have two sons, Allan and Craig.
About the Dr. Tom Williams Award
These awards were created as a tribute to and remembrance of Thomas Williams M.D., general surgeon and former medical staff president of Central DuPage Hospital. Throughout his professional career, Dr. Williams made a special point to acknowledge and praise the nurses and caregivers of Central DuPage Hospital. It is the hope of the present medical staff that the exuberant spirit that was embodied by Dr. Williams will live on through this recognition.
