Nurse Receives Award From March of Dimes

WINFIELD, Ill., March 6, 2007 – Karen Waters, RNC, BSN, RISE NURSE I, has been honored by The March of Dimes and its Perinatal Nursing Advisory Committee with a March of Dimes Nurse Recognition Award. As one of five Illinois nurses recognized this year, she represents the Women’s Subspecialty Department at Central DuPage Hospital (CDH) in Winfield, Ill.

Waters cares for women with high risk pregnancy and those who require fetal assessment. She also prepares and provides monthly updates for multidisciplinary rounds, as well as conducts inpatient rounds with the hospital’s Maternal-Fetal Specialists.

Kim L. Armour, CNP, APN, RDMS, MSN, is Water’s supervisor and nominated her for the award. The criterion was based on extraordinary nursing skills and innovative thinking. Awards are given based on their individual professional and volunteer activities and how these areas relate to the mission of the March of Dimes. The nominees were then reviewed by a special sub-committee of the Perinatal Nursing Advisory Committee. Although many nominations were received, only five nurses were chosen to be honored for their work.

Armour offered a strong recommendation for Waters, “She is often found helping other team members within as well as outside her work environment. Her hard work and supportive attitude is evident to others by her volunteer efforts outside of the hospital. Karen is an extraordinary nurse. I’m very proud to work with her.”

Waters is involved in numerous community activities such as the Glen Ellyn Youth Center Board and World Vision, DuPage Chapter and involved in an international program as Board Member for the Gwaimen Center in Nigeria, Africa.
