Changing Lives Together: Ten Year Anniversary Gala
WHEATON, Ill., January 18, 2007 – HomeCare Physicians (HCP), a non-profit physician house call practice based in Wheaton, Ill., will celebrate ten years of providing compassionate and state-of-the-art medical care to more than 4,000 homebound patients and their families in the greater DuPage County area. In recognition of this special milestone, HCP will host a fundraising gala on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at the Esplanade in Downers Grove.
Event proceeds will be used to help establish and fund the John and Ann Drury Endowed Fund for HomeCare Physicians. John Drury, who retired from the ABC7 news desk in 2002, has an impressive history of reporting and anchoring news in Chicago. The Emmy Award winning newscaster is widely respected for his credible approach to local news reporting during his decades of journalism. John and his wife, Ann Drury are avid supporters of the practice and its Medical Director, Dr. Thomas Cornwell. Dr. Cornwell has been caring for John since his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig’s disease, has rendered him homebound.
Several of Drury’s former news colleagues will be in attendance at the gala and ABC7 news anchors and reporters, Kathy Brock and Alan Krashesky will perform the Master of Ceremonies duties. Both Brock and Krashesky have long and outstanding histories of philanthropy and volunteering.
The name of the gala “Changing Lives Together” was chosen because it describes the uniquely successful partnership between HCP, dedicated caregivers, grateful family members and friends, and generous supporters, including Central DuPage Hospital, the CDH Auxiliary and the Central DuPage Health Foundation.
Dr. Cornwell relates “It is extremely rewarding to be able to make such a huge difference in people’s lives. The homebound patients are disenfranchised from the healthcare system because they physically cannot get to it. I really have time to spend with patients and am able to bring the health care system to them.” HCP, which serves over 300 square miles in the western suburbs, has made more than 50,000 house calls since its inception. The income generated from the John and Ann Drury Endowed Fund for HomeCare Physicians will help provide program operating support and patient assistance to the homebound and their families for years to come.
The Ten Year Anniversary Gala will feature live entertainment and exclusive live auction items.
