CDH and March of Dimes Offer Free Prenatal Education
In West Chicago
WINFIELD, Ill., February 5, 2007–Central DuPage Hospital (CDH) Women and Children Unit was recently awarded a $22,000 grant from the March of Dimes to offer prenatal education classes in a Spanish speaking neighborhood in West Chicago.
“We believe it is important to bring this information right into the community and the church is a perfect support system for the traditional Latina family. This collaborative effort will ensure that these mothers are getting the health education and prenatal care they need to start their families healthy, as soon after conception as possible,” says Claudia Mahoney, RN, MSN, director of Women and Children’s Services at CDH.
The program is intended to raise awareness and enhance knowledge about methods for maintaining a healthy pregnancy with the ultimate goal of positive birth outcomes. Some of the topics covered will be prenatal care, labor and delivery and aftercare for baby and mom.
Classes will be held on Sunday afternoons beginning in March from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church in West Chicago, 140 N. Oakwood Ave. Each session will be held over two Sundays. Refreshments and free babysitting will be provided and other family members are welcome to attend.
There is no charge for this class, but registration is required. Call St. Mary’s Parish Office at 630-231-0013 to register or for more information.
